Jackson Ratio:   

A useful tool for measuring Testudo hermanni and Testudo graeca tortoises only.   It is a useful measuring tool.  A measurement of the SCL is taken and compared to the Jackson’s Ratio graph.  If the resulting measurement is within the higher and lower ranges of normal the tortoise is within the normal weight range.

Jaundice:   

A yellowing of the whites of the eyes, scales, and mucous membranes, caused by bile pigments in the blood.  A debilitating condition attributed to different causes e.g. viral infections, fatty degeneration of the liver, hepatic failure.

Juvenile:   

Young - not sexually mature.
