eye problem
Posted: 14/08/2011 by bubbles

Hi everyone
I have a hermann tortoise that is 3 years old. I have noticed recently when bathing her that when she closes her left eye there is a pink area like membrane type thing that keeps appearing. It isn't like this in her right eye and only seems to appear when I bath her. She rubs it a bit when in the bath with her front leg. Can you suggest anything . I do have a skin and eye ointment that I Could possibly use or do you think I should take her to vets. not even sure if it is quite normal this or not, but it is a pale pink area that we keeps seeing. but if i take her to vets she won't see what I mean cos it only is visible when I bath her.
and advise would be appreciated.
Rach

Hi Rach
It sounds like slight inflamation or a bacterial infection, both these can be easily treated. Anything to do with the eyes should be looked at, so a trip to the vets would be best. If you take her to a specialist vest they won't need to see it, you have given a good description of what it looks like, so that should be enough, plus they will look into the eye. Good that you noticed this as quick as you have, the baths really keep us connected with them don't they?

Let us know how you get on
Jane
