head-butting
Posted: 17/06/2010 by ellie2711

hi everyone,

I have 4 tortoise (two of them are 2 years old and the other 2 are 1 year old) and they have been living together now for approx. 1 year and one of the older ones has just got into the habit of head butting the rest of them. What could be the problem ? and is there anything i could do to stop him ? hes head-butting them very hard and he usually head butts them from behind and send them forwards. He mainly does it to the littlest one.

any advice from hannah x

Hi Hannah,  he is probably practicing for when he can mate when he is older, its best to have the enclosure as large as possible, with plenty of plants or objects for them all to wander round and hide under, they should then be able to escape his attentions.  If the problem continues and he is drawing blood, you may have to consider separting him.
