Outdoor home
Posted: 15/05/2010 by Nell

I am going to make a start (my husband as well) on an outdoor home for Linford tomorrow (weather permitting) I am using decking boards, I intend to put a floor in as it will be on brick and raise it off the groundcan anyone advise please, if I need holes for any drainage and how far from the ground? I want him to be able to walk!!! out. I will be putting sides up the ramp so he doesn't fall off. If anyone has better suggestions they will be much appreciated. I so wan't him to have a lovely home.

Cheers

Hi Nell,

Not quite sure of what you mean about the desgin, are the boards going on the bottome of a brick base?

Here are photos of enclosures for ideas if you haven't already seen them:-

Hi Darren, it will be the same as the sand pits they have in B&Q but will make my own as I want a large one. The decking boards are what I will use and thought of putting plywood on the bottom then sand/soil.It will be on tarmac under my window so I can keep an eye on him if I am indoors but I wanted to raise it slightly so as not to get damp. Hope this makes sence!!

Hi Nell, yes it will need drainage holes to keep it dry and not waterlogged.  Make sure the sides are high as they are excellent climbers, you dont want him falling from that height, also you may need to cover it with vegetable netting or something like that to stop birds taking him!

Cant wait to see the photos, regards Vivienne
