thanks everyone its possible she had worms and because she was cold when we got her keeping her warm may have helped them multipy and coinsidently helped finish her im so angry shefinally ate last night too only to die some time later poor little angel i wish she were still her. my partner is getting a new tort 2moro a horsfield this time the difference in behaviour and energy levels between our baby and the new one says and suggests she had been ill for a long time. her rear end smelt like amonia reallt strong and that wasnt normal. getting a new one 2moro makes me feel guilty but i want/need another hopefully this one will be with us for many of years to come

Hi Angel

I hope your new tortoise will be with you for many, many years please dont feel guilty :)

The bad ammonia smell could indicate that he/she had an infection, poor thing - please make sure that you throw away all the substrate Bits was kept on, and if you are going to use the same enclosure, make sure that you give it a good scrub with discinfectant or a bleach solution, so that when you get your new tort, he or she is going into a completely clean enclosure and there is no chance that any bugs or bacteria could be passed on.

I really hope this will be a happier experience for you, and we are always here for any worries or advice needed Click and drag me down to the editor

all the best

I'm so sorry to hear this. I'm gutted for you and for the poor tortoise. I hope your future tortoise experiences are happier ones.

Oh Angel I am so sorry to hear that she diedClick and drag me down to the editor, she must have been treated really bad by the last owners, you tried to turn that round but it was too late the damage was set in.

Make sure your next tortoise is from a breeder and not a pet shop you dont want to take a chance in getting an ill tort again.

Your new tort will have a great life with you.

Regards Vivienne
