To much weight gain?
Posted: 12/08/2009 by winnie

Hi, I've just weighed and measured Queenie and she is now 344g and 12cm. I've been weighing her every month since I got her in May but I didn't have digi scales so was using normal kitchen scales. In May she was between 300-320g and 11.5cm, in June she was 320g and in July she had stayed at 320g. I've just bought some digi scales and weighed her for this month and as I've said she is weighing in at 344g and has grown 0.5cm. Do you think that it's because I wasn't using digi scales that I now have such a jump up in weight as 24g seems quite exccessive to me, shouldn't it be a weight gain of around 5g/month?

Hi Winnie, we do say try to aim for slow growth of around 3g/mnth.  It could be that the non digi scales weren't accurate, or it could be that Queenie is pigging out in the garden!! Its hard to say, its probably best to start from now as the digital scales should give a much more accurate read out.

Hi Vivienne, thanks for replying. I do hope that Queenie will come to no harm from such a large weight gain (if the scales were right). I'll definately be sticking to the digi scales from now on. Is her length and weight about right for a tort of her age?. The vet has aged her at 6 years minimum.

Hi Winnie, I am sure she will be ok, I have just had a thought have you weighed her on the old scales? Weigh her now on both sets of scales and see what the difference is between the two readings.Click and drag me down to the editor
