Hi Ali

Thanks soo much for your help you helped to calm me down. Keya seems to have settled down now and the mucous has stopped forming in her  mouth. That gave my daughter and myself a terrible turn, it was just awful hearing her trying to get air and sqeaking. The Vet that saw her really didn't know what to think or what that horrible gunk was in her mouth but at least he could get her mouth open and clean it all out, although he said it was really hard to do because she is so strong. Keya's front legs are so sticky and gunky, I have washed them several times bit it is stuck like glue, this is all from a huge slug that she tried to eat!!! and there was me earlier thinking how I had two happy torts basking in the sun..
We have gone all through her pen now checking for slugs, although I am hoping that this has put her off??
Will post again tomorrow to let you know how she is
Thanks again
Jane

I hope Keya is ok now, but a useful tip where slugs are concerned is to wash her down with cold tea.  It seems to dissolve the gunk.

Thanks Helen will try that tomorrow.. has anyone else ever had an experience like this with slugs? I knew that sometimes they eat them and that it is OK but never imaged that what happened to Keya was possible...

Hi Guys
Well Keya is up and about as usual this morning as if nothing has happened phewwwwww kept checking on her all through the night about every 2 hours and she looked fine, no mucous forming.
Us??? we feel like we went through a disaster!!!
Seriously it really gave us a nasty turn we all thought that we might have lost her, luckily the vet was only 5 mins away so we had her there pretty quickly. I really need to learn how to open their mouths but I seem really scared that I will break their jaw because they are so strong, I will try what you told me though Ali and have a little practice on Keya in a couple of days when things have really settled down, because I have a feeling that this little monkey is going to give me a run for my money as she gets older teehee
Anyway thanks again, and everyone has a nice day

Hi Jane,

Good to hear she hasnt had anymore mucus coming from her mouth, i reckon she took on more than she could chewClick and drag me down to the editor like i told you they eat some weird things, i had the same nightmare when one of my horsfields ate the guts of a dead mouse.

What lovely creatures we keep.
