And another thing I forgot to mention ( could just beinmy head) but better to ask than to worry i guess, The lower jaw around his beak seems to have gone a daker colour in the space on a month, is this common, or is there a problem or is it just in my head.

OVERLY WORRIED FIRST TIME MUM YOU SEE

sorry for all the questions

Hi Lauren, firstly dont panic, I'm sure Darren will be on to recommend a vet, he is a mine of information!

Sometimes the problem can be environmental, what substrate do you use? If its soil and sand, do you spray/mist with water? sometimes it can get dry and dusty and cause sneezes.

Hi Lauren

The only two vets I know of in Yorkshire are the ones on the TPG list:-

Holly House Veterinary Surgery:-

http://web.mac.com/hohovets/hohovets_site/Home.html

&

Battle Flatts Veterinary Clinic:-

http://web.mac.com/hohovets/hohovets_site/Home.html

I've checked the BCG list and they only have Holy House on theirs and no other in Yorkshire.

If you press gently but firmly under the chin (in his jawline) this will force air through the nostrils and help clear any blockage....beit a foreign object or mucus.

It may be a foreign object has entered the nasal passage, but best to get it checked out by a vet in case there is a respiratory infection that requires antibiotics.

May I please ask what your set-up is; housing, substrate etc.

Thank you for the spedy reply,

he's in a wooden tortoise table,i use some kind of sawdust recomended by the reptile shop after thinking about it last night i thought it could be the sawdust as i used the last of the bag so there was more dust than usual, I've kept my eye on him all morning and there's no signs of a runny nose, and tried presing his jawline again and it all seemed clear, so more relaxed now. Thank you for all your help Dave seems alot happier today Click and drag me down to the editor

Hi Lauren,

As Laraine said the substrate can cause irraitation to the respiratory system. I would be inclined to swap the substrate for a playsand/topsoil mix. Most pet shop substrates are expensive and completely unsuitable. Wood shavings/sawdust will give off harmful spores when wet.

It seems you have found the source of the problem, but in case you still need a vets, there is one in the North West - Birch Heath Vets in Tarporley. I use these and have been happy with them so far. I do not know if there is a closer one to you, so it may still be worth looking around? Rachael

I have a friend who lives in Blackpool and another who is a vet in staffordshire, I will send them both a message and ask for a recommendation for you.
