I think squirt may need his beck trimming a little bit, is there anything I can give him to try wear it down naturally?

Hiya,

You can feed him off a piece of slate, this will help.

Also cuttlefish is good and it will be welcomed as an extra source of calcium when required

I have tried leaving cuttle fish in with him but he is not interested in it! I use it on his food as well, but will try the slate idea

Some tortoise are really funny about eating fresh cuttlefish bone (mine is), and you need to leave it outdoors for about a month, in the wind rain, until it begins to look really manky, and then they love it. Someone said it might be that the weathering takes away any fishy smell in it, but I'm not sure about that.

Oops -- also meant to say that if you use a slate, it's best to use an old fashioned thicker piece, as the modern roofing slates are thin and can get hot if they are near the basking lamp. I use a flat piece of limestone that I picked up in the countryside, it's nice and rough and so good for wearing down beaks.
