Weepy eyes
Posted: 20/01/2009 by nataliehcd

I have a Hermanns, she is just over 2 years old and only had her for 2 months but over the past few weeks she has had weepy eyes...
Its not every day, just it has happened 4 or 5 times now.
Shes a playful tortoise and is always climbing and diving off things so I was thinking perhaps it's the bark in her tortoise table irritating her eyes?
Any advice?

Hi and Click and drag me down to the editor

I would say there's a high chance it is the bark, depending on what kind of bark it is.....some can actually be quite toxic.  I would get rid of it asap, it's not the ideal substrate for a tortoise...........a 50/50 mix of top soil/play sand is the best substrate for a hermann.

When you say her eyes are 'weepy', is there a discharge?  Are they swollen at all?
