Baby hermanns sleeping too much?
Posted: 17/05/2016 by marc.knuckle

hi guys.

my 2 baby hermanns are growing like weeds, 2g in a week each.

just wondered, one wakes up roughly when the light comes on 7am and goes to sleep when it goes off at 7pm. he eats a lot and is very active.

the other takes ages to get out of bed, sometimes not up by 8.30am when i leave for work but does get active not long after my wife confirms. however, he always wonders to his favourite corner late afternoon and digs under to sleep until morning. today i came home at lunch time and bathed them about 1pm. they'd both been eating the food we put out in the morning but after their bath he went to bed and dug right under. when i came home after work he had moved round in the hole but i dont know if he had ventured out since lunch time.

the warm end is 30-34 depending on general temp and the cool end is 20-23. there is 2 mini caves they can go under if they want to cool and the warm end is open for them to warm up apart from some plants.

any thoughts guys?

Hello,

That all sounds fine, torts do sleep a lot.
Temp' at the hot end would be better at 28-30, thus also cooling the cool end. Just raise the UVB bulb.
We've already had spells of weather where they could have been outside all day.

thanks for the help.

i did think it was probably normal but as the other one is so active that threw me. i guess he is the one a bit out of character but at least he is happy being awake and munching so much.

thanks, marc
