Pink shell
Posted: 07/09/2013 by laurenh1

Hi, my male hermanns has recently started mounting my female (we have now separated) but in the mean time he seems to have made his tail sore from rubbing on her shell.
Also he and the female both have what look like rub marks on the slight pertruding parts on the bottom of their shells. Looks a pinky colour (like a carpet burn) i have cleaned them up and put iodine on the marks. If it gets even slightly worse i will go to the vets of course. Any sensible suggestions???

Thank you

Hello Lauren,
I'm not sure what you mean by "sensible."
Males should only be left with females for a limited time, and not at all if the female is to small to carry eggs.
Can you wipe the treatment off & upload pics of the area in question please?
Regards
Tom

Not sure how to upload a pic. I pretty siree now its growth lines, and in these places its sightly soft so hes damaged his shell. Its already clearing up and so is his rub mark on his tail. I am keeping an extreme close eye on all for any changes. One who has the most prominent growth lines has only been with us for 2 months, they have spent alot of time in the sun and have been eating weeds and flowers

How old are they Lauren? New growth should'nt be soft. Where did the new one come from
Pics would be very useful, perhaps get a friend to upload some.

Tom
