BUSH FIRE RESCUED TORTOISE PLATES FALLING OFF
Posted: 31/03/2013 by Wreford-Smith

We live in africa and have rescued a tortoise from a bush fire 2 weeks ago. We treated its leg burns and now it seems in good health, eating on the lawn etc, BUT ITS PLATES ARE FALLING OFF, white bone is exposed. We were thinking to wax the white bits with bees wax, or to varnish it. Any suggestions please and thanks

Hi,

Best to leave it. It sounds as though you have done a good job - waxing, varnishing or putting anything else on the shell to seal it will block the pores and cause a whole new problem.
