Red Shell? was green..?
Posted: 18/03/2013 by mrturtle

Please help me, my tortoise, Mr Turtle the tortoise (named by daughter) has always been happy and healthy, yesterday I notices he has red spots on his shell which has always been green and brown...I then looked underneath him and he is more red on the bottom of his shell and this part can be pressed so im guessing this is soft? I have never tried to press it before so im not sure if he has always been like this? The red definitely is new.
Im worrying as on looking at vets last night it sounds like they need xrays bloods and other tests which is without a doubt something i cannot afford right now. I really dont want him to die ;-( he is our family.
does anybody know about this? is it nothing or can be fixed?
He also seems to be off his food a bit which he always has been in colder months so seems quite normal for him.

This is very serious. You need to find a specialist vet. Ring your local vets who should be able to give you the nearest.

Hi,
As Tom said you really need to get your tortoise to a specialist reptile vet asap. It sounds as though it may be septacemia, bacteria in the blood. If it is this it is very serious and won't get better on its own.
Please let us know how you get on

Kindest Regards
Darren
