Hi

I would be interested in rehoming Vince.  I am an owner already of 2 tortoises Boris (Horsfield) 6 years old and George (Hermann) 22 years old and have had several years experience. Both of my tortoises do get along but sleep seperately and we have a big enclosure and the back garden is sealed so there is no escape!!  My contact number is 07504663257 (Kim) I live in Bristol..

Kindest Regards

Kim

Hi Kim,
Different species shouldn't be mixed together it poses a health risk as they carry different pathogens. Also the behaviour of different species can cause damage. Horsfields have a very nasty bite. Another example of this is the Spur-Thighed tortoise, which butts and has evolved to withstand butting and could literally destroy the shell of a non-butting species.
I'm sorry but we wouldn't rehome a tortoise if it is going to be mixed with another species due to the above reasons

Hi, I am interested in rehoming Vince. I have not previously owned a tortoise, but have owned many other pets, all have been rehomed via rescues. I have been researching to find out what is involved, and I believe I could give a tortoise a good home.  My children are now in their 20's, I live in a house, which has a 50ft garden.  I don't know what criterias you require to be met, in order for me to be considered to rehome a tortoise.

Kind Regards

Chris

Here is a guide on how to foster a tortoise from the TPG. Please take time to read all the information. Firstly you will need to submit a registration form which can be downloaded from the TPG website here:
http://www.tortoise-protection-group.org.uk/site/131.asp
If you have any difficulty downloading the form, please drop us a line at
rehoming@tortoise-protection-group.org.uk and we will send you a form in e-mail format. All you have to do then is hit reply, fill in the form and send it back to us at rehoming@tortoise-protection-group.org.uk. Please note that registration forms will not be accepted without photos (these can be sent in a separate e-mail), these should document where the tortoise will go to warm up, suitable grazing areas, shed/greenhouses/coldframes etc. This will allow us and the current keeper to make the best match for the tortoise(s), ensuring continuity of care, which is paramount. If you have more than one species, please label the photos so we know which species are kept in what areas.
Once we have received your registration form, we will then upload your details into our database for future reference so you won't have to submit this information again. We would be grateful however if you inform us of any changes to your current circumstances e.g. house move or any changes to accommodation/where the tortoise(s) will spend their time.

Once you have registered, details of tortoises available can be found on:-

Our Website:-

Facebook Page:-

If you see a tortoise that you are interested in fostering, you will simply need to make us aware of it by emailing
rehoming@tortoise-protection-group.org.uk We will then contact you if we and the current owners think you are a suitable match.
Be aware that not every email is answered as we get so many responses, please don't be put off by this.

Hi, I am looking for a female friend for my 10 year old male marginated tortoise Albus, who sadly lost his friend Harry recently (reasons unknown). I have had him since he was the size of a 50pence piece and he is now a healthy 8" in size the other one was 'rescued' and although we did all we could over the 8 years we had him, he was never quite in the same health as Albus) and although he lived in a vivarium for the first few years of his life, he now lives happily in the garden most of the time, being brought in at night and only using the viv occasionally. I feel I have experience in looking after this breed, know of a competent vet who is used to tortoises, with the safari park being near for any other queries and the tortoise trust mot day for other checkups (pre and post hibernation) and would really like Albus to have a companion. My number is 07810651285 anytime, Nat
