Acquiring a tortoise is a life-time commitment. Unfortunately, due to a wide range of unpredictable reasons people often find they are no longer in a position to care for their tortoise.
If you feel you are no longer in a position to look after your tortoise and would like to learn more about our rehoming service, please mail us:-
rehoming@tortoise-protection-group.org.uk
Alternatively, if you would like to offer a permanent foster home to a tortoise, you must be a member of the TPG -- this is very simple and it is free to register.
You will be required to fill in a comprehensive rehoming questionnaire for you to be considered. This will allow us and the current keeper to make the best match for the tortoise(s) that we can, ensuring continuity of care, which is paramount. It would be a great help if you would please provide photos, as detailed on the application form, when you submit your application. Click below to download the rehoming application form:-
Rehoming Application Form (Word Format) or Rehoming Application Form (RTF Format)
If possible, would you kindly save the document to your pc, fill out the form electronically and mail it to us as an attachment as opposed to sending it in the post please.
All tortoises that we are asked to rehome are announced on both on our Website Forum and our Yahoo Forum. It is advisable to register on both forums. Should you experience any problems at all with the forums; be it registration or any other matter, please feel free to mail us contactus@tortoise-protection-group.org.uk.
Should you see a tortoise announced on the forums that you would like to be considered to rehome, please mail the rehoming team rehoming@tortoise-protection-group.,org.uk
Giving up a beloved animal can prove to be a traumatic time for any owner and many need the reassurance of knowing where their tortoise(s) or turtle(s) have gone. The TPG can and will act as a mediator, and although your personal details will remain just that, a follow up or brief report with accompanying pictures would be helpful and often puts a previous owner's mind at rest.
Adopting a tortoise is a rewarding and often exciting experience. Click here to read the stories of some of our members who have rehomed tortoises from the TPG.
All tortoises currently available for rehoming are listed below:-
We have been asked to find a new home for Loper, an adult male Hermanns.
If you would like to offer Loper a new home, please contact the Rehoming Team at rehoming@tortoise-protection-group.org.uk with the email subject line '“Loper”, S. Lincolnshire'. Our new application form can be downloaded above in either word or rtf format. You will need to download it into your documents, complete it and attach it to your email. Please provide photos where requested on the application form. If you experience any problems, please let us know, and if you have already completed the new application, please let us know when you apply. Please note: There is no fee charged for re-homing but we hope that if you are successful in your application, you will consider a donation to help towards the TPG's work. Please be assured that any donation no matter how small will be spent working towards making a lasting difference to tortoises. Not all tortoises that we have rehomed in the past have required veterinary treatment, however occasionally this has occurred; therefore as a non profitable group we rely on your generosity to help our cause.

The Tortoise Protection Group have been asked to find a new forever home for a juvenile russian tortoise called Archie. Unfortunatley, his owner is working long hours, and feels that he cannot look after him any longer. Archie is thought to be around 3 - 4 years old and is just over 500g in weight. He currently lives in a viv, so a nice new home with a tortoise table would be lovely for him.
If you feel you would like to offer this little tortoise a home please email us at rehoming@tortoise-protection-group.org.uk with the subject line 'Archie, Stirlingshire Russian'

The TPG predominantly deal with tortoises, and we have no facilities to house terrapins ourselves, even on a temporary basis. For this reason, we are no longer unable to carry out the re-homing of terrapins, but we are happy to point you towards some reputable groups who do rehome terrapins.
The Tortoise Protection Group DO NOT allow individuals to re-home their own tortoises, or to put out a request to rehome a tortoise from someone else on this list, BUT if you have a tortoise to re-home or would like to re-home a tortoise, please contact us at rehoming@tortoise-protection-group.org.uk and we will be happy to help you
