Pink plastron
Posted: 28/05/2012 by alibannani

Hi there,
I have recently noticed that the colour of my three year old hermann's tortoise's plastron has taken on a rather pinkish colour particularly under the chest area along the lines of new growth. I am a little concerned as i haven't noticed this before. Any suggestions on what could have caused this would be much appreciated.
I hope all the torts out there are enjoying this lovely weather! I know mine has been outside all week!

Hi
Mine had similar a few years ago and when I took her the vet I was told it was probably blood under the new growth as the shell is alive , they said give it a week and come back if it's still there
All was good within a week so I would do the same
Fingers crossed !

Hi Alex
I would get it check by a specialist tortoise vet just for piece of mind as it could be something that needs attention.

thanks for your messages. I have registered her with a vet listed on this site and i'll take her if it doesn't clear up in a couple of days.

Hi

My old spur had a pinkish tinge several years ago took him to the vets was told an antibiotic would clear it up,he was given a jab and it cleared up,he had also been a bit offish with his food which also got better.
