Help with new torties
Posted: 07/05/2012 by EMitchell

Hi there, I am hoping someone will be able to help us with our new tortoise hatchlings. We got on Saturday two baby Herman's (6months) and since then they have refused to eat and keep pacing about. The best we got was one had a few mouthfuls of tomato - just to try and tempt them - It seems like they are trying to escape and have tipped themselves onto their backs several times. They are in a tortoise table with 50/50 play sand and topsoil. We have a heat lamp and UVB light. The temperature is in line with the advice given. Fresh water is always available. We have bathed them once a day and appear to be drinking and going to the toilet. Though one we haven't seen pee in the water yet. We have been feeding them dandelions and a mix of green leaves as our tlady mix is still growing. We would really appreciate any tips and help you can give.

Hi Darren

We did not buy our tortoises. We have a friend here who keeps tortoises and has done for 20 + years. This year there was a record number of eggs and hatchlings and after much research we decided we would offer to look after a couple.

Many thanks
Eliz
