Oiled shell
Posted: 02/03/2012 by Don

Hi everyone, long time no see.

Last night on BBC 1's 'One Show' I thought I caught a glimpse of a tortoise which appeared to have had it's shell covered in olive oil.

Since it was only a fleeting glimpse, I cannot say for certain that that was what I saw. Did anyone else see this show and can they confirm my suspicion?

If the BBC did show a tortoise with an oiled shell, they should make a statement declaring this practice to be unhealthy and against good recommended advice.

The BBC is a respected source of good information, where mistakes need to be corrected lest they be taken as gospel.

Hi  Don thanks for bringing this to everyones attentionClick and drag me down to the editor
I missed that but just had a look on iplayer. I have put a complaint into the BBC although the damage has been done and people will innocently be oiling their tortoises shells Click and drag me down to the editor
The shell should never be oiled, it is living tissue with miscoscopic pores and the oil will only clog them up and cause problems, plus if this is done on a hot summers day!!!
