I don't know but if you check with the website "thetortoisetable" they would be able to tell you if it is not on the website database.

Hi Chris
Sweet corn is not good for them, too high in sugars, protein and phosphorous.

I agree with Jane, and I recount the following experience, as I feel it is relevant:

About 25 years ago I re-homed an ancient, sickly tortoise. She was over weight, barely able to move around and had severely swollen leg joints and eyes. She was a large Testudo graeca ibera. I took her on via a vet friend...her then owner was unable to provide for her any longer. When I enquired about her feeding, I was told she had lived exclusively on frozen peas and sweet corn for at least 5 years, as they were her favourites! It took me almost 2 years to wean her onto an adequate diet, but sadly she died 5 years later, still barely able to move around, in and out of the sun or rain. So in my experience sweet corn is off the torty menu! It is good that you asked the question...mind you I still eat too much cheese and chocolate than is good for me.

What a sad story David, but a good one for all of us to learn from. We are told why they shouldn't eat these items, but hearing what happens when they do gives us a better understanding of the consequences.

HI Chris
Sorry got so caught up in the sweetcorn/peas issue didn't reply fully to your question. Weeds are the best to feed, but you still need to know which ones are in the safe zone. Like Sandra said, the Tortoise Table web site is brilliant for this, so have a look at that and you can't go wrong
