Newbie

Hi all, joined this site today after talking to Helen and Lin on TTT. I've had my baby Horsefield tortoise since Tuesday and can't believe how gorgeous he is. I look forward to picking up loads of information so that I can give my little one the best life possible.

Hi and Click and drag me down to the editor
He is lovely, I have been told what little characters horsfields are so you should have a lot of fun with him? Great site the Tortoise Table, really helps to know what is safe to feed, I use it loads I bet you will too.
Looking forward to learning with you.

Hi Jane and Tuppence, welcome to the site, I have a few Horsfields and they are real characters!! When putting them outside be careful as they like to dig holes and climb walls!! Proper little escape artists!!
Please see our care sheet, you can find it under 'The Tortoise' on the left menu, any problems just give us a shout!!
Regards Vivienne

Thanks for the warm welcome from both of us. I have done a hard copy of the care sheet to keep in Tuppences file with all his records and plant guides.

Welcome Jane, to a wonderful obsession. Even after keeping torts for over 40 years, I am still learning loads. Luckily you are on this site...Keep us posted, we love new postings, questions and challenges. Job number one Jane is to find your best local exotics vet, thereby avoiding panic if something does crop up. Have you checked vets list and postings on this site? Which town are you in ( not your address of course), and we might be able to recommend someone.

The initial excitement for me has never died down...I hope you are happy with your torty for many years ahead...Click and drag me down to the editor

Hi David,
thank you for the welcome from both of us. I have already registered Tuppence with Chine House in Loughborough as I already have my 2 corn snakes with them and they came highly recommended. I'm loving having little Tuppence join my ever growing family and he seems to be settling in very well and considering he was only fed on lettuce and dandelion leaves he is being quite adventurous and trying out plants from the garden and he's been very good at using bath time to go to the toilet. I'm sure I shall have lots of questions to ask in the coming months/years as I want to make sure that I do the right thing by him and the information I have already gained from this site has been a god send.

Just a thought Jane...could you add vet details to vets list of this site please?

The list of exotics vets covers such a small of the UK we need 100% coverage of knowledgeable vets. People should seek out a decent vet as soon as they acquire a tortoise imho! All too often we are faced with worried owners and very sick animals, and owners do not have any idea where to go. Sadly, very few people add vet details to TPG data base, but I'm reckoning there must be people receiving great help with torts who do not write in with details. Rant over...so pleased to hear from you Jane. Have fun.

Hi David no problem I'll do it right now. I have put some photos on the tortoise table photo section from last night and his first trip outside.
