Breeding licence
Posted: 20/05/2011 by yoda

Hi everyone,

I was wandering where do I get a licence to sell tortoises also do I need a licence/certificate per tortoise and if so how much on average do they cost? Is the lucky reptile incubator or exo terra incubator better and are they suitable for tortoise eggs? Finally does anyone know any rehoming/rescue centres for tortoises ?

Thankyou

Hiya,

The cost is £25 per each adult male tortoise. That is to say that if you had one male and three females who all laid eggs that hatched and you applied for the licenses at the same time - it would cost £25.00. You will need to have the parent tortoises licensed and microchipped first to enable an application to be made to Animal Health.

Here is a link to the application form:-

Hi, as Darren explained above the licence cost is £25. You would have to contact your nearest tortoise specialist vet to see how much they would charge to micro chip the torts.

If a tortoise from a pet store has a licence and is chipped does this mean it is safe to buy. Dont want to pay cash to anyone who could abuse an animal
