Hi chaps,

havnt been able to post for a while, but glad the site is as usfull as always, my question is -  mrs brown - 3 year old herman has been in fridge hibernation since 29 Nov, she seems well , she has only lost 2g so far, how long should i leave her ?

That will be just over 8 wks, is this their first hibernation? tough one really, good weight loss. Personally if I had decided a date when I was going to take them out, then I would stick to that, as you have had a good hibernation and should be pleased that it all went so successfully, well done.
This is only my opinion, other more experienced members may have a different take.

Thanks Jane,

no its the second one, did same method last year, and she did nearly the same with the weight loss, lost only 1 g over about 9 weeks last time, so thats why i wondered if longer would be better for her

Hi Debs
I have seen other posting where they have gone to the 12 wks but that would be the maximum I would say.
Your hibernation method sounds good,  with good results, how are you doing it?

Hi Debs,

I've always done a maximum of 12 weeks for Hermanns. Their hibernation can be quite short in the wild and I like to give them a headstart before going outside in late spring. Sounds like yours is going really well.

Any reccommendation for a Horsfield? Tarkie has been in for almost 11 weeks. He's only lost 6g, from a starting weight of 586g. He's having a lovely hibernation, but should I get him out at 12 weeks?

Hi Sarah
I would assume that the same rules apply, Maximum 12 wks?
Sorry can't be more specific, is there anything in the care sheets on the left?

Thanks everyone for the comments. Might leave her for a little longer then.

I've done the fridge method, might sound a bit strange, but i have to use our normal fridge , so she shares the bottom shelf with the veg...lol , i cover her with shredded paper and i dont put the lid on her box fully, i leave it half open, so far so good....

once again thanks
