Checking??
Posted: 15/12/2010 by dewly

Hello to you all.
Alfie and Daisey have been in the fridge now for 9 days and appear to be doing well.
But how often should I actually check them, i.e. take them out their boxes and check their reflex's etc?? I want to do it every day but is that a little unfair?
I check the temperature of the fridge at least 4 times a day.
Thank you
Julie

Hello Julie.

Id go with a quick weight and reaction check once a week for small tortoises.

Hi, just read this - I have been popping my hand into the box in the fridge every 2-3 days to check for a reaction (usually poke a back leg and Tarkie retracts it). I haven't weighed him at all though, he's been in for 4 wks tomorrow!

I wrote his start weight on the box. Should I get him out? Seems a shame - he's half dug in to soil and sand. He's 5 years old.

Hi Sarah,

I tend to weigh mine after the first 4-5 weeks of hibernation to see how their weight is so you might want to do this.
