Hibernating
Posted: 26/10/2010 by kimhilary

Hi - this is my first post concerning my first hibernation of a tortoise rehomed from this group. She is thirteen years old and has always been fridge hibernated. She has not eaten for four weeks now and wants to go to sleep I think - should I just bite the bullet and put her down now? Her previous owner said mid November but I think she is ready [but what would I know!] Help please....

Hi,

4 weeks sounds long enough to me for a wind down period. If she is used to being hibernated then i dont see a problem. Have you been giving her regular baths? Mine seem to go down earlier every year and i think this is due to the harsh weather we have been having. I'd say go for it.
