Hi there, the fridge method is good for first time hibernation. You need to be confident about the process, the tortoises are more able to cope with it than the owner :)

Hopefully the info on the website will help

Amy questions, fire away.

Only tip I have is to consider using a soil substrate in the hibernation box, Ive found it helps prevent dehydration.

I was going to post asking for help on the same sibject! My concern is that my boys are still very small - Bowser is 57mm and 170g and Homer is 57mm and 100g. Are they big enough to hibernate?

Hi Tilli,

So long as they can turn around, they'll be fine

Got it - Hermanns:-)

I'd be inclined to check them on The Jackson Ratio:-

If you follow the link to the Jackson Ratio Calculator - you should be able to see how they are fairing.
