Honeysuckle leaves
Posted: 05/09/2010 by tortoise7

HiHi
I Have just been reading a post on another site and it said that honeysuckle leaves contain saponin which is toxic to cold blooded species. I have been giving Molly these as I saw her eating some, so I have been including them in her daily food which she eats quite happily. She did stop eating for 4 days the week before last, which I was worried about, but I put that down to the weather turning cold, do you think it has harmed her in anyway and should I need to do anything about it?
Thanks
Jane

Hi Jane, I am sure you have checked with The Tortoise Table site (http://www.thetortoisetable.org.uk/site/plants_19.asp?catID=158), which states that Honeysuckle is ok in moderation, I give mine the odd few leaves and flowers, like you say they eat them, I think Molly is slowing down with the weather as you suspect.

Hope you and torts are all keeping fine, regards Vivienne
