Rescued Tortoise, Nice, help!!
Posted: 25/07/2010 by Nova

Hi guys

We've just agreed to give a home to a wee tortoise that someone found wandering the gutters of Abu Dhabi city. Was hoping i could get some info on looking after the wee thing, as i have pretty much no idea where to start, and googling seems to get me 1000 conflicting ways of doing things. I've attached a photo, does anyone know which breed the cute wee thing is?
It's currently in a big-ish cage with shredded paper to hide in, a tunnel to hide in, and food, water etc.

Thanks!

PS i promise we didn't write on her shell, someone did it before we got her

Hi,

It looks to me like it could be a Sulcata but im not 100% sure as the pic is so small. If you click on "The Tortoise" in the lefthand column there you will find "Care Sheets". All the advice on this site is accurate. See if anyone else responds to your post to see if they ID your tortoise or if i am correctClick and drag me down to the editor

Oh blimey!!! Sulcatas are the big ones yeah??? Crikey, this is going to require a lot of research i think! I thought it might be a Leopard, but i think you might be right! Still can't believe someone just left the poor wee thing in the gutter, grrrrr

Hiya,

Have you more photos please as the one you've sent isn't really conclusive and as Al has said it's pretty difficult to tell.

HTH
Kindest Regards
Darren

Ok, here's another photo, hope this helps :)

I don't have many photos as the wee thing is so timid that i don't want to stress it by handling it or annoying it too much.

Hi,

Your pic isnt coming up that clear on my pc but it might be me at fault as when i scroll down the pic disappears, this happened to me the other day when i was looking at something not sure if anyone else has this problem on the forum? Its probably best to send a pic via email, if you dont want to stress the tortoise then maybe wait till its settled abit then take more pics, a front pic and looking straight down on the shell plus the tail end if poss, you can send them to my addy if you like and if im not sure i can forward it on to someone who will know. My email is ali@tortoise-protection-group.org.uk
