1st hibernation
Posted: 18/07/2010 by dani

I have two spur-thigh's both about 3 years old, this year will be the first year I hibernate them (mainly due to being nervous of doing so and lack of know how).

I have decided to go for the fridge method, and am considering the husky stella table top fridge as has been recommended several times on here. However I am unsure as to what else I would need? What type of thermostat is best? I have a couple of plastic boxes for them, but any recommendation would be great.

Hi Dani,

Congratulations for preparaing so far in advance:-)

We're lucky to have an array of experienced members who are used to the hibernation process and many members who hibernated for the first time last winter.

As Viv said - please feel free to ask any questions.

Thanks for your replies, I have read the sheet but was looking for some hint/tips maybe particular makes or models people have tried, or bits of kit that people recommend?

you should put them in a box in a box with some straw as bedding for maximum protection against the cold
