New eggs
Posted: 17/07/2010 by Tumbleflumps

Hello,

Our Spur-thighed laid 10 eggs today.  She's laid the odd 1 or 2 in the past but had just distributed them around the garden or in her box but she spent at least a good couple of hours this morning digging a nest before laying them.  We've made our own incubator using the polystyrene box but its our first time so any advice would be most greatful!  We've got a heat mat in there with a thermometer/hygrometer but just wondering if a thermostat is necessary?

Bit surprised that she's laid so many as even though we have a male, he's hardly ever after her (we think she's his Mum so maybe a tortoise with morals?!Click and drag me down to the editor) so its handy to just let them roam around the garden and he doesnt hassle her.  He's had the occasional go with her but when we've put him with the in-laws female, he's on heat!!

Congratulations on the eggs.

You will need a thermostat to keep the temperature at a constant temperature, I set mine for 32c.  Have you put in a little dish of water, as you also need to monitor the humidity.
