Is he really 2 and a half?
Posted: 26/05/2010 by kerryl

I know they are not great pics, but is it possible to tell how old Trevor is roughly?  The lady we brought him off said he was born November 2007 but my friends Herman tortoise is only a year old and already bigger than Trevor!

Hi, its very difficult to say by looks how old a tort is.  Horsfields can be much smaller than other species such as Hermanns.

I have a few Horsfields of similar age and they all range in different sizes.

Sorry I cant be of more help, regards Vivienne

Hi Kerry,

What a sweetie:-)
He does look quite bumpy , particularly for a Horsfield. It's good he's found a good home:-)

Good Luck with him

Hi all,  Thanks Darren he really is a "sweetie" and a proper little character.  I was concerned about how bumpy his shell is too, will that rectify itself now he is living in better conditions? Is there anything extra I could give him to help his shell?  He has calcium powder and Nutrobal on his weeds alternating daily.

He is lovely!  I'm afraid the bumpiness wont go away, but with your care giving the right foods, suppliments and lighting future growth will be smooth, so the look of the bumpiness will even out (if that makes sense!!)Click and drag me down to the editor
