Tunisian Torts
Posted: 25/02/2010 by jaynethelady

I have 2 Tunisians Betty & George - they are 9 years old. I struggle to find specific info about this breed - they are moving into a new indoor enclosure this weekend and I would like to put in some seeds, or plants - has anyone any suggestions or is the herbiseed mixture OK. Also my Vet thinks they may be the only pair of this species so would love to hear from anyone who has these aswell

Hi Jayne,

I know a few people who keep Tunisians. There are quite a few in the UK. The TPG, vet Kevin Eatwell, specialises in Tunisians. Unfortunately, most seem to arrive into the UK illegally, bought in markets in Tunisia and smuggled in through airports:-(
Would love to see some photos. The herbiseed mixture should be absolutely fine

Hi Darren - R u the same guy from Kimbos? Just received all the gear from there for my set up. When I get them moved in this weekend I will take some photos. I take them to a specialist vet in Leeds and he identified them as Tunisians. I do not have papers with them and the vet thought they had probably been brought over in someones luggage although the place I got them denied this but would not give me the details of the "breeder" they got them from. The vet was very keen for me to breed them a few years ago as he said he was unaware of a Legitimate pair of Tunisians in the UK (he consults to the tortoise society). Might consider this for the future.

Hi Jayne,

Nope that's a different Darren, there are quite a few of us:-)

I do know a greeder in the South West of the UK.

I'd be interested to know where you got them from? The trade in Tunisians is very bad and it has a profound affect of the wild population.

You may mail me direct if you like with this person's details:-

Please let us know how you get on with them - photos would be great:-)
