Weight - Help please
Posted: 22/01/2010 by Munster

Hi

We are just about to put our 2 x 2 year hermans in to hibernation. We have been following the wind down procudure and the firidge is running perfectly between 3.5 and 5 degrees.

We just gave them their last bath and and we weight them. One is 229g and the other is 135g which looking at the jackson ratio he is under weight.

Please can someone advise as we are now unsure what to do. This is our first time for hibernation.

Many thanks

Catherine

Hi Darren

Thanks for getting back to us so quickly. He is 98mm long and 135g. On the jackson ratio it looks like he is just under low, if we are reading it correctly.

We havent been feeding them for the last 3 weeks. He was 149g before this.

Many thanks

Catherine

Hi Catherine,

On the face of it, he does seems too light to me. Has he been OK over the last year or so health-wise and eating OK?

I'm sure you've probably measured him OK - but just to check have you measured the straight carapace length:-

Hi Darren

Thanks for the reply. Yes i looked at how to measure corretly from this website (which is great) so i am sure this is his correct length.

Tuga has been ok all year - he has never had a huge appetite. We wormed him back at the beginning of last year, not long after we had him.

We will put Munster in to hibernation but over winter Tuga as he is so small. We just feel so bad that we have starved him for 3 weeks!!!

Is there anything that we should look out for now that we have starved him or should we get back to normal as quick as possible?

Many thanks for the advice.

Catherine
