Indoor Enclosure raised level
Posted: 09/01/2010 by Clairestortoise

Hello

I am wanting to add a second level if I can to Teddys' home. He has a large indoor rabbit cage. I was thinking of placing about 5-6 small plant pots in their side at one end and filling topsoil ontop to create a second level. Then also place a piece of large slate as a ramp. Will this work? I am trying to be adventurous as possible for Teddy, to keep him happy and active too :) I know here at home I get bored with the setup in my living room and occassional have a move around lol...some ideas or pics would be great!! Hi Claire,

It can be very dangerous if they overturn under the lamp, so it's best to ensure nothing is located in the vicinity of the lamp which will aid a tortoise turning over and to ensure there is something placed under the lamp that will aid a tortoise righting itself (e.g. broken slate)

Hi Darren, Thanks for your reply :).. I have now removed the second level as in the pic...Its scared the C*** out of me lol...Its wasnt near the lamp was on the other end, the cooler end. I have no idea how Teddy did this. Happened twice today so decided to remove it. So now back to one level for Teddy :) She looked very pleased with the setup, wandering around having a nose for hours and there she was on her back, shaking her legs. Will try again another time..So if I place a small piece of slate Teddy will be able correct herself? How? I'd hate to find her dead on her back...Ooooo no!!!

Hi Claire,

Best to use pieces of broken slate, they can get their claws under the edges then, rather than a flat stone.

Looks Good:-)
