MORE SLEEP
Posted: 17/12/2009 by Debi

Hi Chaps,

Firstlya a big thank you for all your help over my first year as a tort owner, i don't know what i would have done with out your help.

My little fellow Mr Brown has been in the fridge now for about 6 weeks, he is three yr old hermans & weighs 268g ( has only lost 1g while hibernating), he seems very settled, i think his length of hibernation should be 8 weeks, but if he hasn't lost any weight and seems ok should i leave him longer....

The other question is i am going to order a mega ray light for when he does get up, should i get one at 160w or 120w, i am ordering of the internet and they both cost £50.00, but i'm not sure which wattage to buy, hope you can advise...

Once again many thanks.

Hi Debs,

That's really good.....only 1gram loss:-)
He will probably be good for longer, though I tend to hibernate for only 8 weeks the first time around - having said that they are usually quite a bit smaller - so possibly 10 weeks will be fine.

With regards to your lamp - it all depends on how large your enclosure is. The higher the wattage the higher the lamp has to be suspended from and the larger the area it will cover. I find the 120 watt lamp sufficient for a 4ft enclosure - with the lamp in the centre of the table.
