Posted: 15/11/2009 by Row

Just 1 more question!!!!

Twiglet has just been put in the fridge her start weight before wind down was 114 grams she now ways 105 grams which is 9 grams lost which equals 7.8% is this too much weight loss????????

Really worried and felt dreadful putting her in the fridge.

Reassurance is needed.

Thanks Row ang chilly Twiglet x

Hi Row,

It's impossible to determine how much weight a tortoie should lose during wind-down as the weight-loss could either be due to the passing of undigested food or loss of bodyfats (which is a much slower process - but more worrying).
It wouldn't be unusual for a tortoise to lose this much weight in wind-down at all or even more.
