Hi Kerry,

It's available Equine suppliers and it's usually pretty cheap (sold by the sack).
The supplier we get ours from doesn't usually have it in stock - but will order it in.

A friend just told me to buy cricket dust (says it's the same thing, I have looked it up on the internet and it says it is for putting on insects to be fed to lizards, is that right? if not I will certainly try equine suppliers :0

I do believe that some brands are fine, though not sure if others add protein supplements?, so I wouldn't like to say 100% for sure. It will certainly be far far cheaper if you purchase it from an equine supplier. I think we paid around £8.00 for a sack the year before last (just run out - even with our lot and gave quite a lot of it away). I think most of these dusting powders that are sold are £3-£4 for 200grams - which is extremely expensive.

If you do decide to go for the dusting powder - it would be worth checking the ingredients to be on the safe side.

Thank you Darren I will do what you do thank you, I asked my friend where he got his information from and he said a pet shop told him that, and they got their info from their supplier, upon reading the label on the back of the cricket dust, it in no way pertains to the tortoise, this stuff is for putting on live food, of course I don't trust pet shops anyway!

Helloooo, I want to ask why is Limestone flour given to tortoises? Is it something you sprinkle on their food? Thanks :)

Hi,

Limestone flour or Calcium Carbonate as its also known is given to tortoises and other reptiles as this helps them maintain good bone growth, without this their bones with not form properly and they could end up with MBD. Yes you sprinkle this on their food. You can also place a piece of cuttle bone in the enclosure as extra calcium for them to munch on when they feel like it.

Hi So you use Limestone flour or Nutrobol( I think that right, not both together? I hope I don't come across as asking silly questions:) But I do need to be sure.

Hi Kerry, I looked on eBay and it's sold there in smaller quantity. I've not bought there, was just looking at what you can buy for Tortoises. It's getting close now to my Birthday :) I'm hoping my hubby makes me smile and gets me one. How are your two?

Hi,

Yes you need to give Nutrobal as well as calcium. Nutrobal you only give them 2-3 times a week and you only need a sprinkling on the food.
