First time hibernation?
Posted: 26/10/2009 by imfromwales

Im sure you have heard this many times before but this might be my first time i have had to hibernate Ed.

He has started to stop eating and likes going under his dark part of his house. Im not sure if i should start the hibernation process? He is a 2 year old herman, which ive never hibernated (nor any other tortoise) before.

Could someone please point me in the right direction to read up on hibernation and how its done, and give their views on weather i should hibernate Ed.

Thanks

Hi,

We are fortunate enough to have both new and experienced keeprs on here who are always willing to help out.

May I suggest you take a look at the following link:-

You need to first decide what method of hibernation you are going to use. We tend to recommend fridge hibernation to achieve the most stable temperatures. The wind-down sheet will help with preparing your tortoise for hibernation.

Please feel free to post any questions you have here.

Kindest Regards

Darren
