Juvenile Hermanns - Blackpool
Posted: 22/10/2009 by tpgarlene

Hello

The Tortoise Protection Group have been asked to find a new home for 2 juvenile hermanns aged around 4 and 5 years old.  This is a difficult decision for the owner, but due to a change in circumstances, she has reluctantly decided to rehome them.

The owner was told that the older tortoise is male, although the tail is a shorter than I would expect, and the younger one is thought to be female - photos are available, I am having problems uploading them tonight.  Both were purchased from pet shops, and following the advice she was given, they were initially were kept in a viv, and are a little large for their age.  After doing her research, the owner has now housed them in a tortoise table, changed their diet, and they have spent the summer outdoor, and both are fit and healthy.

The younger tortoise has some lumpyness, and a slighly odd scute pattern (looks like she hatched that way) the older one has a little old shell damage to one side, this has been checked by a vet and it healing well.  The owner would really like these tortoises to go to an experienced, permanent home where they will be well loved and looked after.

If  you would like to offer these tortoises a new home, please contact the Rehoming Team at rehoming@tortoise-protection-group.org.uk  with the email subject line 'Blackpool Hermanns '. PLEASE DO NOT APPLY THROUGH THIS FORUM. The rehoming application form can be found in the Rehoming Section of this website:-

http://www.tortoise-protection-group.org.uk/site/131.asp

you will need to download it into your documents, complete it and attach it to your email. If you experience any problems, please let us know, and if you have already completed an application, please let us know when you apply. Please note: There is no fee charged for re-homing but we hope that if you are successful in your application, you will consider a donation to help towards the TPG's work. Please be assured that any donation no matter how small will be spent working towards making a lasting difference to tortoises. Not all tortoises that we have rehomed in the past have required veterinary treatment, however occasionally this has occurred; therefore as a non profitable group we rely on your generosity to help our cause.

Many thanks
