Double checking
Posted: 19/10/2009 by Debi

Hello guys,

Just needing a little more advise re hibernating, Mr Brown is starting his count down today, iv'e had a box in the fridge for the last few days to make sure i get the temp right, i am using the juvenile hib.sheet so doing a five day week, he is nearly three years old, is that the right one ? also gonna use put about four inches of sand/soil mix in his tub is that enough ?

The two thermometers read 4.3 degrees, do you think that is ok, and lastly my husband dosn't think Mr Brown will still be awake in about ten days time as he seems so tired already, can i put him into his box in any less number of days than is on the sheet for the count down ( sorry can't remember if it's 20) or should i keep bathing him & weighing him for the full length of time, not sure if that makes sense but hope you can help a very worried mum !!!!

Many thanks guys

Hi Debs,

The idea is to ensure all food has been digested in his stomach. Is he still passing stools during or after bathing at all, how heavy is he and haow many days have you been winding him down please?

Thanks for getting back in touch Darren, he is on day four now, sorry made mistake with the weight  (on my other post) , he was 274g this morning after his bath and he 109mm in length, the temp in the fridge has stabalised at 4.3.

He started to eat his soil this morning so i have removed it and put him  a clean soft towel in his house, heat  & light are on for 10 hours.

Thanks

Debs

Hi Deb,

Weight and temps both sound excellent Click and drag me down to the editor

Are you using a max/min thermometer to measure the highest and lowest temps?

You do need to ensure there is no undigested food in the bowls - so it's not a good idea to cut-short the wind-down. Soil isn't really a problem as such - it's rotting food in the stomach that is the main concern.
