Hi Lindsay

Welcome to TPG. Weeds/flowers are a great food for tortoises

thats all my tortoises get to eat.and the best bit is weeds are free.....Dandys,plantain,vetch,dead nettle

sow thistles, chickweed are to name a few.

plants.....Pansy, petunias, most sedums but not sedum acre, forget-me-nots

Hi,

Its best to avoid grass verges especially when they are near residential areas as the council will sometimes spray these areas. I pick mine out in the country along bridle paths/fields etc. Always give them a good wash before feeding them.

Hi Lindsay, welcome from me too, great to here you have a new tortoise.

For further advice on Charlie I would recommend you read our care sheet here is the link http://www.tortoise-protection-group.org.uk/site/files/Hermanns%20care%20sheet%20May%202008.pdf.  It will ensure you and your mother in law are providing the very best care for your torts.
