Illegal Sale of Tortoises/TPG Update (Please Read)
Posted: 17/09/2009 by TPGDarren

Hi,

We have for sometime been in contact with Glenys Stacey, the Chief Executive of Animal Health over various issues. One of the many issues we have raised regards the level of enforcement action is being taken over the sale of annexe A tortoises without the correct paperwork.

We have checked transaction certificates being supplied with tortoises in various pet shops; most were not sufficient to enable the legal sale of the tortoises or it was a lottery as to which tortoise would be sold with which certificate. Many of the certificates did not bear the name of the shop, merely the dealer who imported the tortoise. A10 Transaction certificates MUST show the seller of the tortoise in box 1.

In the last two days we have been contacted by both the Head of Compliance for Animal Health (UK CITES) and the National Wildlife Crime Unit offering support should we report any license irregularities involving the sale of annexe A tortoises.

To this end, if you have been sold an annexe A tortoise without the correct A10 certificate, or know of pet shops selling annex A tortoises without A10s or A10s not issued in the pet shops name, please drop us an e-mail:-

We will hopefully be shortly contacted by Glenys Stacey concerning the many other issues raised in our correspondence.

Many Thanks

Darren
