Another theft from the Tortoise Garden, Cornwall
Posted: 09/08/2009 by kirkie

Hate to be the bringer of more bad news but I've just been made aware that a further theft has taken place at the Tortoise Garden.

"Once again I have had a  thief in my sanctuary today despite every gate being padlocked and the garden was full of visitors all day, they managed to steal my two Indian Stars, two two year old hermanns and one of my own big spur boys. I would be grateful if you could put this around your group, the BCG are putting it out on the net and to all the other groups. The police think they dropped a young child over the fence to pick them up as there was no other way to get at them. "

That's absolutely disgusting - poor Joy.

I've dropped her a line to ask for some photos to load up onto the website.

Thanks Kirkie

Hi,

I received this e-mail from Joy this morning - it appears the thieves returned:-

There is worse news, they came back in the night and stole my big giant and
several pens of toddlers, leopards, and god knows who else.”

If you have any information which may lead to the recovery of the stolen tortoises, please contact John Hayward, coordinator national theft register, who will also deal with the issuing of any reward due for the recovery of the stolen animals and any conviction of the despicable people involved in the theft.

This is such dreadful news, it is all our worst nightmares come true, poor Joy & Geoff. It must be very upsetting for Joy's elderly mother also, who we met last year, she loves sitting in the shop talking to everyone.
Lets just hope that they are reunited with their torts as soon as possible

Hi Darren,

Sorryif this has been circulated via the Yahoo group but this is the latest I have on these diabolical thefts:

Please publish and notify all members:

Stolen on 9/10 August 2009 from an establishment in Cornwall, namely 'The Tortoise Garden', St Austell:

Two x two year old Hermann's

One x eight year old Spurthighed.

One x giant Sulcata

One x large Leopard

There has been a previous recent theft at the same premises when young Hermann's and a baby Leopard Tortoise were also stolen.

All breeders and kepers to be extra vigilant at this time.

this was a double page spread in todays Mail newspaper which detailed the stolen tortoises so hopefully with more people being aware of this dispicable act, the tortoises will hopefully be returned safely.

Zeus, Joys Sulcata, has been returned. He was bought from a pet shop in Kent, the new owner put two and two together and contacted the police. A man has been arrested and released pending further enquiries. Story here:
