i regret to inform everybody that shelby died last night
she showed no signs anything was wrong with her as she was eating & sunbathing & walking about then about 9pm last night she started to pull her head inside her shell & wouldnt move so we phoned the vet & immediatly took her straight in where the vet pronounced her dead & even they dont know how as she was just in last week for a check up & told she was fine
shelby is the 2nd tortoise that we bought from the same seller in december & now thats both of them thats passed away
i asked the vet if we were doing anything wrong with our husbandry & diets for them & when i told him everything we do with them he told us that it was perfect husbandry & diet
i really just cant believe our luck with terri & now shelby
all we ever wanted was a nice household family pets & its just all gone wrong for us

I am so very sorry to hear this. You two have been through so much with those poor little tortoises, and to have it come to this is just heartbreaking. I know it will not bring Shelby back, but is the vet going to do a post mortem to try and discover why she died? Tortoises can take a very long time to show the effects of bad husbandry, and that would certainly have happened before you acquired Terri and Shelby. I just feel so sorry for the both of you as you have done everything possible to give those tortoises a good home and a good life. Lots of hugs from me to you.

were both just so devastated this has to be the worst year for us & now were extra vigilant with scooby the vet asked if we wanted him to do a post mortem for £200 but the insurance wont pay it out

So sorry to read this bad news I was only reading yesterday about the horrid and sad time you had with terri and now this, my thoughts go out to you both at what is a very sad time.

hi darren it wasnt scooby that passed it was shelby but were keeping an extra eye on scooby incase anything has been passed onto him the vet told us last night scooby is to small to give him any antibiotics due to being tiny & weighing 18g as they dont want to get the doseage wrong,

really appreciate the well wishes from all tpg members

our husbandry is that we bathe them once every 2/3 days, let out to walk about eveyday so not to confine them to there viv, there diet is a mix of dandelions & timothy hays with nutrobol sprinkled every 3rd day as thats what we were advised also a bit of crushed grassland tortoise food sprinkled over, water changed daily, a heat source which goes no higher than 30 degrees & also a uv bulb just changed last week as we were told to change it every 6 months, there bed temp is around 18 degrees either way deprnding on night temps, iv probably missed things off but if anybody knows where were going wrong please help us because we cant go through this again its to heartbreaking many thanks to all
