i have had fred for 43yrs and he dont hibernate properly and he has just stopped eating i have taken him to the local vet but they dont seem to have much knowledge of tortoises so any  information would be very helpfull thanks .

How long is it since he last ate and have you bathed him in warm water at all?

 

Unfortunately, many vets aren't knowledgeable with tortoises.

he has about 3 mouthfulls  of  food a day then goes back to sleep i havent bathed him in warm water at all would you reccomend it then thanks

Hi,

Daily bathing will help maintain hydration and the warm water will increase activity, by assisting him warming up. I'd be inclined to try it for a few days and see how he gets on.
