Stolen Tortoises - The Tortoise Garden, Cornwall
Posted: 14/06/2009 by kirkie

Just received an email containing some very bad news:

"I have just received this very sad email from Tortoise Garden in Cornwall. This happened today 14.6.09.

Please pass round to all tortoise owners

I am very distressed, one of my “visitors” managed to somehow get into my baby pen and stole them all!!

I lost six beautiful baby hermanns and one 8 week old leopard and I am desperate for them to come home. Maybe you can alert tortoise owners and tell them to be vigilant if they hear of any tortoises for sale or newly acquired??? The leopard is very distinctive because his little tail points upwards instead of down so he is easily identifiable. I have photo’s of them. The man had to open a padlock, open a gate and then shut it behind him to get into the pen and reverse the procedure to come out and despite other visitors strolling around, no one saw him go into the pen."

You can read more by clicking the "news" buttonon the left

It's sickening, if anyone hears of any tortoises being offered for sale under unusual circumstances please contact the Tortoise Garden.

OMG this is awful, poor Joy she must be beside herself. I went to the Tortoise Garden a few years back and she works damn hard and doesnt even charge people to get in, she runs purely on donations. To think a low life could do this is beyond me.

My heart goes out to Joy, I met her last year when I visited the Tortoise Garden. Joy and her family dedicate their lives to the love they have of tortoises. It is such a sad world we live in today!!! I guess a big reminder for us all to make sure our enclosures are as secure as we can make them!! Positive thoughts that none of us have to experience that awful situation
Kind regards
