Grumpy Tortoise

Hi,

Tetley is grumpy.  He was treated for RNS some weeks ago and was wormed also and although all worms have gone and no more bubbles from his nose he is just a grumpy little man!

He seems to be sulking, he gets up sun bathes and then just goes back to bed.  Is this just a faze he going through?

Twiggy has become more active and full of herself so do you think it's just that Tetley isn't top Tort anymore and feels pushed out?

I'm only a little worried about Tetley's behavour as he's eating, weeing and pooing all ok. His eye's are bright he's hydrated and temps are all ok.

Any ideas?

Thanks Row

Might just be a male Click and drag me down to the editorClick and drag me down to the editor. Sorry, if eating and drinking and temps are correct he might just be feeling a bit sensitive as the worming can upset the gastric balance a little. Bit of TLC and I'm sure he'll soon be up to his old tricks and giving Twiggy a run for her money.

Thanks Elaine.  I must admit I did think that too about him being male!!! Twiggy was also wormed and it hasn't affected her at all is that just Tetley is a little more sensitive?

Would giving him baths with Reptoboost in help balance things out?

If he was given antibiotics for the RNS plus the wormer then his system will have gone through quite a change coping with them both. Bathing should wash his system out, perhaps to increase his bathes to twice per day for a week may help. Using Reptoboost in perhaps his morning bath (be sure to give him a clean bath after it to wash the Reptoboost off) may help but I personally wouldn't use it too often as if there is something going on you don't want to mask it. Also the change in weather wont be helping any.

Good luck Row and keep us up dated.

There is a product called Nutribac, sold by Kimbos, and from what I have been told and read it is good for re-establishing gut flora after treatments. Link below

Thanks larraine.  I going to get some.  he is just so so grumpy all most depressed. Today I got him out of bed for a warm up he had is lunch and went to the nearest hide where he has been for the rest of today.  He might be just worn out as he was outside yesterday and was quite perky.  I've got the whole of the weekend to observe and I'll keep you posted.

Hi,

Tetley has been under observation all weekend.  And the strange thing is when he is in his NEW outdoor enclosure he is bright, alert and very active. we only had 2 day of good weather this weekend so that was Friday & Saturday.  Then the rest of the weekend he was indoors and he was back to his grumpy and lathargic self.  Sunday he didn't even get up and thought he may have worn himself out from being out doors. Monday he got up basked, had his bath had his lunch and went straight to bed that was it.  Today was much the same as Monday.  I even put him on the floor which he normally loves (i know your not meant to but over the winter it was more exercise) but he just sits there, head only just peeking out.

I don't know what to do????????

Any help or advise is very much needed as this really isn't the Tetley I know and love.  He's just looks so so sad and sleepy.

Hi Row

Just to let you know, that most of mine have stayed huddled up and haven't ventured out today because of this awful weather.  It could just be a weather thing with Tetley too.

However, given that he has recently been treated for RNS and been wormed, and given that you are still worried abot him, I think perhpas a follow up visit to the vet is in order now.

Hi Helen,

Also posted this on a new post and Arlene also like you seemed to think it was a weather/outdoor thing.  It's so hard to tell.  I think I'll give my vet a call for some advise he doesn't work on Wednesdays so will call on Thursday.  Don't really know what to say to him apart from "he's grumpy".  I hate seeing him so unhappy it's such a sad sight.

I'll keep you posted as alway so sorry for all the posts.
