Hi

Please can someone help?

I was just browsing ebay and there is a breeder on there with an advert for selling torts. The problem being that they say 'will post anywhere in the world'!!!

Link below.

It is illegal to selll live animals on ebay.  If you report him the advert will be withdrawn.  sorry I'm not sure how to do this myself, but I'll take a look.

Thanks for bringing it to our attention.

Hi Catherine,

Selling live animals is prohibited on Ebay, and I've tried using the reporting facility, but their system doesn't seem to be working well. If you scroll right down to the bottom of the page, you will see a tab for Report this Item. You then need to select items from boxes (select 'prohibited' in the Reason for Report box, and then 'other banned items' in the Detailed Reason box -- but then another box comes up with no real options for you, and I think this is where their system is falling down, because unless you can select one of those options, it doesn't seem to be going through. It might just be my system, so if you have a go maybe it will work. Usually if you report these items to Ebay they will immediately remove the item from sale. Fingers crossed that someone is able to get through to them to stop this -- and thanks for alerting us.

Hi Catherine & Jon
Just had a lookClick and drag me down to the editor it is appalling isn't it. I know that if ebay receive complaints they will remove the advert, but that does not solve the problem in that they will still sell  the torts via courier, the only difference is that we are spared  the knowledge of knowing it is still going on.
The people concerned have clearly displayed their full name and address(if correct) and could be appraoched directly. I guess the point I am trying to make is that it would be nice to find a way that we could communicate with these people and let them see how caring Tortoise owners & Breeders  find their way of selling tortoises very worrying for the future of the tortoise and the new tortoise owner.
Sorry I am not much help, but hopefully convey  thoughts that maybe we could see a way forward in trying to solve this ever increasing problem. I have further understanding that torts are now also being sold off at ridiculous prices like £3-4 at some places!!! I suppose our biggest part in all of this is  Education

Hi All

Thanks for the reply's.

I have reported the seller to ebay - i just choose 'British something or other - sorry be up to long this morning!!!.

Lets hope that ebay take the advert off!! It makes me mad as they say they breed and care for the torts and offer any advice whether bought from them or not, but are willing to put the torts in a box and ship them off around the world. AAARRRGGG.

Feel better now i got it off my chest. I just had to give my torts a little hug. lol.Click and drag me down to the editor

I've just managed to report it too
-- so hopefully it will be taken
off soon. Sorry if people can't see
the full extent of lines on this
thread - it is caused by the very
long url to the Ebay item in the
first posting. We'll try and
do something about it.
