Hermann/Kent
Posted: 05/04/2009 by TPGJo

We have been asked to find a loving home for a male hermann, currently staying at a foster home of a very experienced keeper in Kent.  We were, initially, very worried about this tortoise as when we were first approached by the owner, the tortoise was described as having 'a crack in his shell on the underside'.  The tortoise was collected as a matter of urgency for immediate veterinary treatment and thankfully the tortoise does not have a crack in his plastron.  He has not had the best of diet in the past and this has resulted in his shell not being perfect shape, the owner mistook this as a 'crack'.  Now we have established that he loves being out of the viv, enjoys the sunshine and is very active !  He does not appear to have apparent health problems but would probably benefit from worming (we would recommend this for all rehomed tortoises within the first 3 months).

He weighs 400gs and has an SCL of 12cms, approx 7 years old.

If you would like to offer this tortoise a new home, please contact the rehoming team at rehoming@tortoise-protection-group.org.uk with the email subject line 'Hermann/Kent'.  The rehoming application form can be found in the Rehoming Section of this website, you will need to download it into your documents, complete it and attach it to your email.  Any problems, please let us know, and if you have already completed an application, please let us know when you apply.

Please note: There is no fee charged for re-homing but we hope that
if you are successful in your application, you will consider a
donation to help towards the TPG's work. Please be assured that any
donation no matter how small will be spent working towards making a
lasting difference to tortoises. Not all tortoises that we have
rehomed in the past have required veterinary treatment, however
occasionally this has occured, therefore as a non profitable group we
rely on your generosity to help our cause.

Hi Jo,

I would love to rehome him, I actually right in the middle of building a new outdoor enclosure for my males.

Where abouts in kent?

Let me know, and perhaps we could arrange picking the little fellow up.

Kind regards Barry

Hi Barry. All work carried out by the TPG is done on a voluntary bases. Often the rehoming team will have done their 'day job' and only have time to check (which they do daily) the rehoming e-mails. This is why we ask that you reply to the above addy rehoming@tortoise-protection-group.org.uk by doing so and by putting Hermman Kent in the subject line you will then know that your interest has be noted. Hope this helps and good luck as he is a handsome fellow!

Hi Barry

I don't understand when you say your mail fails.  What happens - do you get some kind of error message?  I ask because I haven't heard of anyone else having problems.  Have you copied the rehoming address down properly.  It is rehoming@tortoise-protection-group.org.uk

Is it just that you haven't heard  anything from the rehoming team and you're assuming your message hasn't got through?

Let me know please.

Hi Helen,

At first I thought it was just that I hadn't heard anything, but then I logged on this morning and I had an e-mail saying that the e-mail i had sent to the rehoming dept. had failed.

I will try again in a minute, is there anyway you could find out if is received because the orignal email i sent didn't show as failed until a couple of days later.

Anyway I will try again now.

we would love to rehome a tortoise preferably an older one who could live in the garden with his own house we have numerous pets 5 horse dogs and cats we would of course keep him secure from other horses we are a mature couple and are looking for a tortoise to add to our menagerie for our grandchildren. we fill it helps them learn responsibility to animals and nurturing side to ,their character.

We have plenty of space and time for a needy tortoise
