Length of hibernation for juvenile spur thighs.
Posted: 08/01/2017 by Fimac

Just after a bit of advice please. I have 2 spur thighs approx 2 and 1/2 years old and they are currently hibernating (fridge method). All is going well, fridge temperature and weights are stable and no where near 5% body weight loss. Next week will be their 8th week in hibernation. Do I start to wake them up or keep them hibernating for a few more weeks? I am not entirely sure how long they should hibernate for because they are juveniles. Many Thanks in advance X 😄

Hello,

With all going well, incl. ventilation, 12 weeks will be fine. Increase to 16mth  next year & full 5mths the winter after.
